Setting up DSN for ODBC connection to TDV 8

The instructions say to setup a system DSN on your computer to use the ODBC connection to TDV 8. The only way that I can see the ODBC connection to TDV from Excel or Power BI is if I setup a local DSN on my computer. Has anybody else had this issue Are the instructions wrong

The steps you mention aren't entirely wrong:

 

You do need an ODBC DSN: this can be a user DSN (use the windows odbc administrator to create one, client interfaces guide explains how)

In TDV, publish the objects within a catalog of a database

Use the "other sources" option in excel to connect to the odbc DSN (data connection wizard or microsoft query option)
