Overview

This Data Function calculates a Hyperbolic Decline Curve Analysis using production oil and gas data.  Decline curve analysis (DCA) is a graphical procedure used for analyzing declining production rates and forecasting future performance of oil and gas wells.  Fitting a line through the performance history and assuming this same trend will continue in future forms the basis of DCA concept.  You can either use this data function in your own .dxp or perform the analysis with your data in the included .dxp template.

Great, easy to implement BUT:

Although you will get a regression, the algorithm allows to obtain "b" parameter values outside the 0-1 range, even negative #'s

0 is the "b" value for exponential and 1 for Harmonic, which in theory bracket the hyperbolic spectrum....

Not being a TERR practicioner, not sure how to constrain that....

This R data function provides estimates of future production and ultimate recovery (EUR) from early production data.  It runs in TIBCO Enterprise Runtime for R (TERR), embedded in Spotfire.  Results from running this analysis on production data can be used to value assets, prioritze production, assess where to drill and many other applications. I downloaded and applied this very quickly to some production data. The TIBCO Data Science team has deployed this and more comprehensive decline curve analysis applications in Spotfire and TERR at many energy companies worldwide. This Decline Curve Data Function on this Community Exchange is a good starting point.
