It works in the client but not the Web Player.
I have a Spotfire analysis connected to a Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) cube using a data connector. It works in the client but not the Web Player.
I am aware that you have to install the SQL_AS_ADOMD driver on the machine that's running the client ... do I also have to install the driver on the Spotfire Server? or the Web Player Server?
The SSAS driver should be installed/available on the Web Player automatically since that is part of .NET which is a system requirement for the Web Player. What is the error that you are getting? Please ensure that the SSAS cube is available from the Web Player machine in general and also with the credentials that are being used to access the cube (depends on your connector connection settings seen here: Edit > Data Connection Properties)
The error message is: The 'Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services' data connector is not available.
I installed the driver on the Web Player Server, got same response. Went ahead and installed on the Spotfire Server, no change, same response.
Your point about Credentials is a good one ... when I set up the connection, I never had the chance to supply credentials, so I assume it's using my Windows Authentication credentials. I would prefer to supply the credentials for our dedicated Spotfire account. Is there a way?
Have you recently deployed the connector to your environment? If so, make sure you have run the webupdate.bat on the Web Player to pull all updates from your deployment area to your Web Player installation (like when deploying a hotfix)
Is the Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services connector license enabled for the user who is accessing the Web Player?
Tools > Administration Manager > Groups and Licenses > Select your group(s) > Licenses tab
Also, is the ADOMD.NET driver that you installed 32 or 64 bit? If the Web Player is on a 64 bit OS then Spotfire will be running in 64 bit mode and you must use the 64 bit version of the driver.
And in general, please make sure your server version and ADOMD.NET driver meet the requirements:
