June 2011 Update

Scribe recently released the June 2011 update of Scribe Online. This KB article is intended to provide details for this update.

Important: Existing users who installed their agents after the May 2011 Update will have their agents updated automatically. For existing users who installed their agent prior to the May 2011 Update, Scribe strongly suggests that you update your Scribe Online Agent to the latest version. Earlier versions of the Agent may continue to function, but cannot access newly added features and do not include improvements and bug fixes. For information about how to update the Scribe Online Agent, see Updating an Agent (https://help.scribesoft.com/scribe/en/index.htm#sol/agent/agentupdate.htm) in the Scribe Online Help.

New Features & Improvements:

Select Entities to Replicate: When configuring a Scribe Online RS Solution, users can now select which entities to replicate. Specifically, users can opt to replicate:

  • All entities: Scribe Online RS will replicate all entities, including custom entities from the Microsoft Dynamics CRM source.
  • Recommended entities (default): Scribe Online RS will replicate most entities, including custom entities from the Microsoft Dynamics CRM source. System entities, which are generally of less interest to most users, will not be replicated.
  • Custom entities: You can choose which entities to replicate from a list of entities, including custom entities. This option is not available for users with a Starter subscription.

For more information, see Selecting Entities (https://help.scribesoft.com/scribe/en/index.htm#rs/rs_solution/rs_entiti...).

All Organizations View: Users who belong to multiple organizations, such as system integrators who service multiple clients, can now view the status of all Solutions across all of their Organizations in a single page.

On-Demand Schedule Option: You can now choose to run Solutions on demand (i.e., by clicking " Run Now" from the Manage Solutions page) instead of having the Solution always run automatically. See Scheduling A Solution (https://help.scribesoft.com/scribe/en/index.htm#sol/general/schedule.htm)

Error-Free Replication: As was described as a known issue in the May 2011 release notes (https://success.scribesoft.com/s/question/0D53200003tVQ2uCAG/), the Scribe Online RS service is impacted by a bug in the Microsoft API by which the metadata regarding the structure of entities in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 did not match the actual data. This issue resulted in replications regularly reporting row-level failures during execution. Effective with the June 2011 update, replications should generally run without row errors.

Enterprise Service Bus: The Agent has been re-architected to utilize the Microsoft Enterprise Service bus. To end users, the practical result of this change is that user actions such as Test Connection or Browse for CRM organizations and Start/Stop commands will happen without delay.

Subscriptions: Effective with the June 2011 update, Scribe Online RS now supports subscriptions for Trial, Starter and Standard editions.

Bug Fixes:

This release resolves the following issues:

Known Issues:

The following are known issues with the June 2011 Update

A new Solution associated with an Agent which has not yet been updated to the latest version (i.e., agent version is 1.0.0.20725 or earlier) will not run. To resolve this issue, either restart the Windows Service for the Scribe Online Agent or (preferrably) upgrade to the latest Agent. See Updating an Agent https://help.scribesoft.com/scribe/en/index.htm#sol/agent/agentupdate.htm)

If the user restarts an Agent which has not yet been updated to the latest version (i.e., agent version is 1.0.0.20725 or earlier), any Solution associated with that Agent will run once automatically, even if that Solution Instance has been configured to be run On Demand. To resolve this issue, upgrade to the latest Agent. See Updating an Agent https://help.scribesoft.com/scribe/en/index.htm#sol/agent/agentupdate.htm)

Users with an existing Solution associated with an Agent which has not yet been updated to the latest version (i.e., agent version is 1.0.0.20725 or earlier) and who goes through the following -- install a new Agent, associate their existing Solution Instance with the new Agent, and then attempt to access other features such as entity selection -- may still experience issues in accessing those features.

To avoid this issue, update your Solution in two steps: first, associate your Solution with the new Agent in the Solution Wizard and save your Solution. Second, edit your Solution a second time to access these additional features such as entity selection. Users whose Agents update automatically will not experience this issue. See

https://success.scribesoft.com/s/question/0D53200003tVQAACA4/ for further details on this issue. See Updating an Agent https://help.scribesoft.com/scribe/en/index.htm#sol/agent/agentupdate.htm)

We have intermittently observed situations in which, when clicking on the command buttons of the Manage Invitations or Invite Users dialogs, the Scribe Online application page is disabled (i.e., all navigation links are grayed out). To get out of this situation, simply refresh the browser page to get back to Scribe Online. We are currently investigating this issue to determine the root cause for fix in the next release.

When creating a Solution against a newly-created Microsoft Dynamics CRM Connection, Scribe Online may take up to 3 or 4 minutes to retrieve the list of entities from Microsoft Dynamics CRM. During this period the user can select the " All entities" option, but will not be able to select the " Recommended entities" or " Custom entities" options until the entity list has been retrieved.

Installing the agent on Win 2003 x64 machines may occasionally require a manual restart of the installation process after the .NET 4.0 pre-requisite is installed. Usually, the Scribe Online agent installer will detect if the .NET 4.0 prerequisite is not installed, install .NET 4.0 if such is the case, and on reboot, will automatically continue the agent install process. On some occasions, however, the automatic restart of the agent install does not happen after rebooting. In such cases, the user can recover from this situation by manually starting the agent installer again.

We would love to hear what you think - the good, the bad and the ugly. Please add a comment to this post.
