Problems configuring Spotfire server to authenticate via NTLM

I have followed the documentation for configuring the Spotifre Server to authenticate via NTLM and use LDAP for the user directory.   I was unable to create the service account myself; however, our IT department created one for me to use for the configuration.   However, when I try to login as the admin, I get the following error:

DEBUG 2016-07-20T07:54:38,139-0500 [unknown, #8, #7333] User authentication failed: NTLM authentication error: Failed to retrieve property:
DEBUG 2016-07-20T07:54:38,139-0500 [unknown, #8, #7333] The request is configured for the NTLM authentication method
DEBUG 2016-07-20T07:54:38,139-0500 [unknown, #8, #7333] Requesting client to authenticate using the NTLM authentication scheme
DEBUG 2016-07-20T07:54:38,139-0500 [unknown, #8, #7333] Returning from filter after requesting the client to authenticate and without passing on the request to the next item in the filter chain.

I am unable to login.  I sat with our Windows IT team for 2 hours yesterday to ensure the Windows server was setup correctly and the service account had the correct access to the server.   Has anyone run into this problem, if so how did you resolve it.?

No, we never got this working, but at least I know why.   The way Enterprise IT has our security protocol setup, it is not possbile to setup NTLM for desktop applications.  I had teams for IT take a look and they said it was not possible to setup this up.   There are enhancements coming in this space I hear.  I submitted a request in Spotfire Ideas for them to allow other user login options besides just NTLM and Kerberos for single sign on.   It did get picked up by engineering, so fingers crossed for a solution soon.
