What is the plus sign added to the end of a Freehand Join expression?

I have a Freehand Join I created well over a year ago. I was just reviewing it in Information Designer, and noticed (+) at the end for the Freehand expression. Was that always there? What is it? I have never seen this syntax in SQL Server, did Spotfire append these characters? I need to revise this Freehand Join, unsure if I need to leave the (+) or get rid of it.

Haven't seen that either.  When did that start?  Do we eliminate it for an inner join?

The use of the + determines type of join whether it's left or right. If the + is on the right side, it's a left join and if it's on left, then it's a right join.
