Why do some users generate corrupted pdf or powerpoint files when exporting from Spotfire Web Player using IE or Chrome

Some of our Web Player users try to export a visualization or page to Power Point or PDF from the browser and they generate a corrupted file that cannot be opened.   The problem is not universal, for example I cannot reproduce this error when I export.   It is unclear if it is the user or the computer.  So I asked a few people to run a test for me.

  • Have a person who is experiencing a problem with exporting log into the computer of someone who is not experiencing this problem and try to export from their machine.
  • Have a person who is not experiencing a problem with exporting log onto the computer of someone who is experiencing this problem and try to export from their machine.

Here are the results from one person.

  1. Fred (my manager) tried exporting to a pdf on his machine and could export and open the pdf from the dashboard. Then, after about 5 minutes, he remotely logged into another computer, tried to export into pdf but the downloaded file was corrupted.
  2. The next day, I logged into Fred’s machine (the one he successfully exported to pdf) and tried to export into pdf and power point but I got error.

I am not sure why and where is error is occuring.  Has anyone else experienced this and if so; is there a resolution.
