This article provides an overview of how to access SharePoint data from Spotfire.

There are two types of data in SharePoint:

  1. Lists.
  2. Data files (typically Excel files, comma separated files or text files).

There are also two SharePoint deployment types:

  1. SharePoint Online with or without Office 365 is the cloud version of SharePoint hosted by Microsoft.
  2. SharePoint Server 2013, 2016 and 2019 is the on-premises version installed on customers' IT infrastructure.

Please note that TIBCO has decided not to invest in SharePoint Server access as the majority of our customer are using SharePoint Online today or is planning to migrate from SharePoint Server to SharePoint Online in the near future.

The table below provides an overview on how to connect to SharePoint data from Spotfire.

  SharePoint Online SharePoint Server
Lists

Use the native SharePoint Online Lists connector available in Spotfire 10.10 LTS and later.

Use the Spotfire Connector for OData with modified URL as described in the Spotfire Analyst documentation and in this more detailed knowledge base article.

Files

A native connector is in TIBCO's  direction so please vote and comment on the idea in the TIBCO idea portal.  There are alternatives described in the idea’s public comments.

A Custom Connector for TIBCO Spotfire to read data from Microsoft SharePoint Online Files is availalble on the TIBCO Community Exchange.  Please see the Custom Connector page for details.

TIBCO’s partner EPAM provides a Spotfire extension for SharePoint accesss.

Please see work arounds mentioned furhter down in this article.

Native support for files in SharePoint Server is not in TIBCO's direction.

Please review the public comments in the idea in the TIBCO idea portal.

Using flow to convert an Excel file into a SharePoint List

By using Flows you are able to link an Excel file to a SharePoint list, and then use the Spotfire Connector for SharePoint Lists to add data to Spotfire. Below are a couple of articles on this subject.

Use a Powershell script to download a file and use placeholders from Spotfire to point to the right location

The article below provides some guidance into how this could be achieved.

Use a Python Data Function

The Microsoft 365 Python package documented below could potentially be used in a Spotfire Data Function to load Teams, Outlook, OneDrive and SharePoint data into Spotfire.
