Machine Learning for Pattern Recognition, an example of classifying semiconductor wafers
By Nico Rode and Adam Faskowitz
Images of defects and failure patterns can contain important clues as to the source of potential problems in a manufacturing process. It can be said for many verticals, that if patterns are understood, they can be predicted, monitored, and acted upon. The challenge, however, is how to sift through terabytes of sensor and image data to label or identify these patterns of interest. We have developed a novel approach to pattern recognition as applied to semiconductor wafer maps. It is using a combination of machine learning techniques to identify patterns quickly and accurately from a large amount of data and we will show you how to use these patterns to train and deploy a model to classify new wafers in real-time.

Life expectancy data analysis to understand longevity
By Steven Hillion
Gartner issued a challenge to the leaders in its Data Science and Machine Learning ‘magic quadrant’. They gave us data on life expectancy and asked us “What can governments and business do to improve population health as defined by low mortality rates?” This demo shows the breadth of TIBCO’s data science platform. Our team of specialists produced a powerful dashboard, backed by a collection of predictive models, built on multiple datasets that required quite a bit of wrangling and preparation. We'll review each of these work streams and explain how we produced this end-to-end analytics pipeline in just a few days.

Predicting Flight Delays
By Chia-Yui Lee
This example is for airlines and airports that want to improve operations and traveler experience. A data scientist analyzes historical flight delays and builds models to predict potential flight delays in future so that an airline or airport may take pre-emptive actions. It features TIBCO Statistica, a workbench for data scientists, where they can perform operations on historical data and use a comprehensive set of statistics, analytics and machine learning algorithms to build models. Interactive visual analytics in TIBCO Spotfire helps the data scientist understand the data and the models in the modeling process.
Big Data Parking Citations Analysis
By DivyaJyoti Rajdev
This project is a collaboration between Tipping Point, the San Francisco Office of Financial Justice and TIBCO. It aimed to discover insights on the impact of parking citations on low income drivers in San Francisco. The team discovered that older cars, which are assumed to be driven by lower-income drivers, are associated with citations of higher amounts. As a result of the findings, the team made recommendations to the Office of Financial Justice for policy review.
Due to the volume of data analyzed, the initial analysis was performed on a Big Data platform. Business analysts, data engineers and data scientists collaborated and shared findings in TIBCO Spotfire Data Science, a collaborative data science platform for data preparation and analytics at scale. Data supporting the findings was then summarized and presented in an interactive TIBCO Spotfire dashboard to a business audience.

This demo shows flexibility to allow user their mode of expression (Spotfire visual vs. R Graphics, see tutorial. You also will see how to scrape data from the web, parse the web response, download unzip and extract the relevant files and flatten 300+ files of ~50Kb each unzipped into single table that can be plotted directly on a map!
Note: script/Spotfire file will be made available soon
Hurricane Harvey Analysis
By Troy Ruths (with contributions from Lucas Wood and Dunia Giniebra)
Hurricane Harvey devasted homes, livelihoods, and the very fabric of our community in Houston. This analysis examines the relationship between floodplains and the communities that reside in them. We used same techniques for interference in wells to generate a percentage of that neighborhood that was likely to flood. We paired that data to the number of 311 calls that were placed after the hurricane. Did the calls come from well-known areas with high flood potential?
Troy Ruths' Hurricane Harvey analysis can be accessed via Webplayer if you click on the image on this page (scroll down to 2nd image) or via exchange.ai
Precipitation Analysis
By Peter Shaw
As Harvey parked over the southeast Texas coast, we can see the individual arms of the hurricane expressed as precipitation bands. Comparison of the visualization showing accumulation, versus time slices shows the convergence of events that caused Houston to receive so much rainfall. Demo off some unique capabilities; Live filtering is very powerful, can see data in a way that would be very difficult to see otherwise. You also learn how to leverage TERR to gather data and provide to Spotfire together with a custom shapefile grid.

Merging geospatial location data with polygons: leveraging shapefiles in your analysis
by Peter Shaw
Geographic information is often available both as locations of specific points as well as geographic regions defined by shapefile polygons. Matching each point to its enclosing polygon allows these data sources to be merged, allowing further analysis and increasing overall value.
Our TIBCO Community Component Exchange includes a number of freely-downloadable tools for geospatial analysis; one of these lets you rapidly match point locations to their enclosing shapefile polygons from Spotfire.
We will demonstrate how to download and use this component from the TIBCO Community and show it in action.
