How to transform XML to JSON

I am using Cloud Integration and creating a Scheduled App that invokes an HTTP API that returns XML response. I am using the HTTP Connector for that. I then need to map that to another API that takes JSON input.

I've looked at the mapper; but that seems to only support json to json conversion. Looking at all the text functions also shows nothing resembling Xpath. So, how are people parsing the XML responses into JSON or extracting XML data?

Is there something in Marketplace that I can use to manipulate the XML response. I've had a look at the XML Connector; but that just seems to read / write XML files. I've already got the XML string in a variable.

Flogo is not an option as we need the app to run on-premises only.
